Recycling services
Orange Grove has a long history of being green! While we no longer operate our own recycling processing center, we continue to partner with the City of Chattanooga to manage its eight recycling and refuse centers. At these sites, as well as the location on Signal Mountain, our staff manage daily operations, while also providing employment opportunities for the people we support. Orange Grove is dedicated to providing excellent customer service to the public as we work toward making Chattanooga a cleaner and greener community!
Additionally, Orange Grove operates Recycle Express, a service we provide for local businesses that also helps employ people we support. This service allows businesses to schedule routine pick-ups of various recyclable materials. transition into community based services
In 2016, Orange Grove closed its on-campus recycling center (materials recovery facility, or MRF) due to new federal regulations governing the delivery of services to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). We enjoyed an extremely successful 25-plus year partnership with the City of Chattanooga to process all curbside recycling .
Although we no longer process recyclables on site, we have continued to manage the sale and marketing of recyclable materials collected through Chattanooga's curbside programs as well as the collection centers.
The changes were part of Orange Grove’s response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) final settings rule. The rule requires that all settings in which Medicaid-reimbursed services and programs are provided be integrated and support full access to the greater community, as well as to include opportunities to seek employment, work in integrated settings, and earn a competitive wage.
